Adverse Weather Arrangement

Arrangement for Hotel and Tourism Institute / Chinese Culinary Institute / International Culinary Institute students:

 

Students scheduled for training in The T Hotel or TDS operation:

In times of Typhoons

When typhoons affect Hong Kong, the following arrangements will apply:

Pre-No. 8 Special Announcement / Typhoon Signal No. 8 or above
(a) In force or issued at 6:15 a.m. or before 11:00 a.m.

Morning session
(classes and examinations scheduled between 8:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.) will be suspended.
* TDS lunch operation, if any, will be suspended.

(b) In force or issued at 11:00 a.m. or before 4:00 p.m.

Afternoon session
(classes and examination scheduled between 1:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.) will be suspended. *TDS dinner operation, if any, will be suspended.

(c) In force or issued at 4:00 p.m. or thereafter

Evening session
(classes and examination scheduled after 6:30 p.m.) will be suspended.
*TDS dinner operation, if any, will continue to be suspended.

(d) Issued when classes or examinations are in session

All classes or examinations will be immediately suspended for the session.

(e) Issued before start of examinations

Examinations to be held in that particular session will be postponed.

(f) Lowering to No. 3 or below or lowering all signals

 

  • Students scheduled with training in The T Hotel should return for training within two hours after the lowering of signals.
  • When the signal is lowered before 4 p.m., students scheduled with TDS dinner operation training should return for training by 6:30 p.m.

 

In times of typhoons approaching during class period

When the Hong Kong Observatory issues a Pre-No.8 Special Announcement, all classes/activities of the Institutes (including examinations) will immediately be suspended and students already at the Institutes will be released.

In times of rainstorms

When rainstorm warning signal is issued, the following arrangements will apply:

Amber

To operate as normal.

Red/Black
(a) In force or issued at 6:15 a.m. or before 11:00 a.m.

 

  • Students are advised to stay home or take shelter in a safe place.
  • Upon lowering of the signal, students scheduled for training for The T Hotel should return for training within two hours.

 

(b) In force or issued at 11:00 a.m. or before 4:00 p.m.

(c) In force or issued at 4:00 p.m. or thereafter

  1. (d) Issued when classes or examinations are in session
  • All scheduled training in The T Hotel and TDS restaurants should continue until the training ends.
  • Certain students may, as instructed by their instructor, continue their training in The T Hotel until weather conditions have improved or until students for next shift can resume training in The T Hotel as scheduled. Class time credit would be allocated to students for time on training in The T Hotel.
  • Remarks:
    If students are not yet in the Institute premises due to difference in class timetables, they should stay home or take shelter in a safe place. For classes and examinations conducted outdoor, the responsible staff on the spot should suspend the activities immediately and ensure that all students are taken shelter in a safe place.

(e) Issued before start of examinations

Examinations to be held in that particular session will be postponed.

(f) Lowering to Amber or lowering all signals

 

 

  • Students scheduled for training for The T Hotel should return for training within two hours.
  • When the signal is lowered before 4 p.m., students scheduled with TDS dinner operation training should return for training by 6:30 p.m.

Student who is unable to return to the Institutes on time due to the local weather or slope/traffic conditions after the lowering of the typhoon signals or rainstorm signals should inform his / her class master / mistress of his / her situation as soon as possible. Students, in particular those living in remote areas, should not be penalised for being late under these circumstances.
